History of the Maple Valley School of Ballet

Maple Valley School of Ballet (MVSB) has been serving the communities of Covington, Maple Valley, Auburn, Kent, Renton & Issaquah since it was founded by Claudette Krause and Barbara Lycett in 1982. Together they developed and implemented a comprehensive classical ballet curriculum. Ms.Lycett taught classes, choreographed, and co-directed MVSB until 1991. Ms.Krause was continually dedicated to enriching children's lives and served as teacher, choreographer, producer, and Artistic Director of the school until her retirement in 2005.

Today, MVSB continues to offer a comprehensive modern dance and ballet training program based on standards of excellence in dance education and artistic performance esablished by the founders. Each class level presents specific technical criteria, while instruction is individualized to meet the needs of each dancer. Individual growth and artistic expression are encouraged throughout the program. It is our mission to provide a supportive, educational environment where students will experience artistic accomplishment and thus make dance a part of their lives. Over the years the school has produced 24 original ballets based on classic tales, children's storybooks, or colorful themes integrating dance, literature, art, and culture. MVSB annually presents professional-quality, original performances, thus offering young dancers the chance to share their art and the audience an unforgettable, theatrical experience.
